Making it REAL TrainingMaking it REAL is an evidence based (tried and tested) programme focussed on Raising Early Achievement in Literacy. It works for all young children by making literacy meaningful and giving parents confidence to engage in fun, low/no cost activities to support their children’s learning. By attending this training you will gain knowledge and understanding of the four strands of early literacy and an under-pinning framework that supports planning and evaluation. You will find out about how REAL works through home visits and literacy events and have the opportunity to take part in a project with funding for resources and staffing. Please contact Kate Elston at the Jersey Child Care Trust (01534 629901) or kate@jcct.org.je to book and find out more….Details and booking form here

The roll out of the Three-Year Developmental Reviews has started in schools and settings in partnership with Family Nursing and Home Care, with the first of the ‘Me at Three’ boxes being distributed to three-year-olds and their parents/carers. The boxes contain flyers and information for parents and carers,  as well as two core books and mark making material for children. Please do encourage your families to sign up to take part in the developmental reviews when Family Nursing and Home Care make contact with your school or setting. Our pilot and feasibility study data has shown how valued the appointments were by both practitioners and parents who took part.

We have been out and about taking ‘50 Things to Do Before You’re Five’ on the road to highlight some of the activities on the app and to encourage repeat use. Please continue to encourage parents in your schools and settings to download the app. They might be able to take photos to share with you when they have completed some of the activities at home. Follow this link https://50thingstodo.org/professionals/practitioners-EYFS to watch videos to see how practitioners working within the EYFS benefit from integrating 50 Things to Do into their practice, as well as a handy Early Years Practitioner Guide. Thank you to our dedicated childminders for attending an evening workshop on the benefits of using clay with babies and young children. Their commitment to learning new techniques will greatly enhance their practice, fostering creativity and sensory development in the children. By incorporating clay activities, they are providing opportunities for the children to explore textures, improve fine motor skills, and express themselves creatively. These efforts are invaluable to their growth and learning journey. The group was enthusiastic and willing to embrace new ideas which will make a significant difference to their children’s early education.

The Shaping Us Framework

The Shaping Us Framework describes social and emotional skills in a clear way which can inform and inspire action across society. The framework has been designed to help give social and emotional skills the greater priority they deserve and to encourage organisations across the UK to use it in their work, to support The Princess of Wales’ mission of creating a happier, healthier society. The framework aims to provide an accessible approach to talking about social and emotional skills that cuts across disciplines and engages a broad audience. The framework was created through a global listening exercise involving academic, clinical and practitioner experts. The aim was to develop consensus on the universally relevant skills and capabilities that matter most throughout our lives and across diverse socioeconomic and cultural contexts. The final framework comprises thirty social and emotional skills grouped into six clusters. You can download the framework below.
