Early nutrition is key to achieving optimal health. The World Health Organisation guidance recommends:
- exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months
- continued breastfeeding for up to two years and beyond
- the introduction of appropriate solid foods from 6 months
Once your baby is born, further support is available from:
- Midwives at the hospital
- The community midwife team
- The infant feeding specialist midwife
- Your health visitor
There is also a weekly specialist breastfeeding clinic if you need additional support, called Breastfeeding Buddies. For information speak to your health visitor.
