Breastfeeding

Early nutrition is key to achieving optimal health. The World Health Organisation guidance recommends:

  • exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months
  • continued breastfeeding for up to two years and beyond
  • the introduction of appropriate solid foods from 6 months

Once your baby is born, further support is available from:

  • Midwives at the hospital
  • The community midwife team
  • The infant feeding specialist midwife
  • Your health visitor

There is also a weekly specialist breastfeeding clinic if you need additional support, called Breastfeeding Buddies. For information speak to your health visitor.
