Raising Early Achievement in Literacy (REAL) is an evidence-based approach developed to support young children’s early literacy development by working closely with families and communities, based on the ORIM Framework (Opportunities, Recognition, Interaction, and Model) — this supports families support literacy through everyday activities. The approach emphasises four strands of literacy: environmental print; books; early writing; and oral language.
Best Start Jersey was delighted to welcome families to our Reading Morning at Millennium Park on Saturday, and we are thrilled to report that the event was a great success.
The morning was filled with stories, creative activities, drawing, and plenty of opportunities for children and their families to enjoy books together in a fun and relaxed outdoor setting. It was wonderful to see so many children engaging with the activities, exploring books, and sharing the joy of reading with parents, carers, and friends.
One of the highlights of the event was seeing families continue the experience beyond the park, taking home a love of stories and reading that we hope will last for years to come.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the families who attended and helped make the event so special. Your enthusiasm, participation, and support created a warm and welcoming atmosphere that was enjoyed by everyone.
We would also like to thank all of the staff, volunteers, and partner organisations whose hard work and dedication made the event possible. Their commitment to supporting children and families in our community helped create a memorable morning for all who attended.
